At Least I’m Not a Rhombus

Rectangles always look so miserable
there on the page
In their boxy squareness

In danger of breaking –
they can't sleep standing up
like triangles

Can't play soccer
like circles
kicked into spheres

Always the bridesmaid,
framing gowns in shop windows,
but never the bride

But there is always worse –
they could be a rhombus
on a math test

    I love this, especially:
    “they can’t sleep standing up
    like triangles”

All of the personification here is fantastic!

  2. In your world rectangles are life’s outsiders. With mankind, they are often referred to as squares

A mathy gem. A rhombus can also be a diamond shape…
But solving the problem of getting the gem out of the stone (the brain) that can be a trial!

It’s extra funny because I disagree with all your assessments of rectangles! But it’s not really something to get into a debate over, is it? And I can’t stop smiling, so yeah — more like this, please. 🙂

Ahahahaha! Yes, we do in fact love our rectangles. Can’t really get by without them.
